Meeting with some very inspiring businesses. The cocktails and stories were flowing everyone revved up about what brought them there in the first place. What a fabulous surprise to receive an email from NATWEST's, Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2017, saying that I have been shortlisted for an award! I have been shortlisted for the High Street Entrpreneur of the Year Award for my brand, Milly J Shoes and shop - All About Shoes.
As the shop has only been open since last November, to receive recognition already is wonderful news.
The judges include James Caan CBE, Haley Parson OBE and many other notable business people. The awards are hosted in November with glitzy ceremonies taking place right across the UK. With despite being based in Norwich, my area will be London.
The judges said of my work:
“Understanding as a teacher and profound life experience are key driving forces within this entrepreneur as she journeys to fulfil her artistic potential. Milly J Shoes brings unprecedented creativity to footwear and fresh imagination to the high street.”

As a speaker for schools, I was contacted by St Mary's High School in Croydon to help inspire 130 teenage girls. My first impression was my amazement at seeing only 9 white faces in the sea of expectant faces. It certainly wasn't a diverse school in terms of ethnic diversity.
St Mary's is considered an inner city school and is headed by a remarkable priciple who prides herself on offering her students other avenues in which to take their lives. Hence my invitation. I am always thrilled to do occasions such as this, as in my opinion, it is the schools such as these that need the inspiration to break free from routes that many would think are already set for them.
